So while my sister and her family were visiting, my sister wanted to buy a costume for her 4-month old daughter, who was about to attend a costume party. We went around town looking for a costume but no one sold costumes for babies that young and the only reasonable costume we saw was too expensive for an outfit that will probably only be worn once. So we decided to make a quick costume (A shirt and a cape) for my niece and here are the steps below:
Material Needed:
1.) Shirt (Either plain or a superhero-themed shirt)
2.) Cotton sheet (or linen or whatever material you are comfortable with)
3.) Paper
4.) Glue
Steps:
We were making a simple costume with a cape – so the focus of the costume was to make a unique superhero cape:
- Cut out a square piece of the cotton sheet.
- Use a pen or marker to draw out a quarter of a circle at one of the corners of the cotton sheet.
- Cut this pattern out of the sheet with a pair of scissors. Make sure the strings on both sides of the cut-out are thick enough, so they don’t tear easily while on the baby. Also make sure that the cut-out is big enough so that it can fit comfortably around the baby’s neck.
- You can cut out a pattern at the other end of the sheet. This is mainly for styling, so you can do whatever you want here.
- Get another sheet of cloth or even a thick plastic bag and draw a pattern that symbolizes the superhero emblem of your baby.
- Use a knife or pair of scissors to cut out the pattern.
- Stick the pattern on a sheet of paper.
- Cut out the extra edges of the piece of paper.
- Glue the superhero emblem on the back of the cotton sheet and let it dry.
- Done. You now have a cheap superhero cape for your baby and you didn’t have to spend $75.
- Tie the cape loosely around the baby’s neck (If the cape is too tight, please re-cut the space on the cotton sheet to give enough room around the baby’s neck – Cape is supposed to hang loosely around the baby’s neck). Again for full disclosure o, PLEASE DON’T STRANGLE YOUR BABY WITH YOUR HAND-MADE COSTUME.
