We visited the Made by Design Exhibit on 5th of November, 2016. An event that showcased luxury home products and Interior design hosted at the Landmark Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was put together by Essential Interior magazines.
According to the event brochure, “MADE BY DESIGN is an exclusive event that caters to key players in the luxury home and hospitality industry. It features curated, exquisitely crafted home products and luxury brands uniquely integrated by top suppliers and sheltered within a venue that provides an authentic peer group collaboration and networking experience”.

Exhibitors were setup to show the full range of their products. As you will expect a lot of the exhibits were properly designed and displayed properly. After all, it was a design exhibit.
Products that were on display include:
Home furniture for bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens.
Other products displayed include – Stone & Marbles for floors and table tops.
“Soft furnishing” – Curtains and fixtures.
Companies represented at the exhibit included Bang & Olufsen, Adam & Eve, No.4 Bourdillon, Leatherworld, Veneblinda Limited, woodstyles, Fujian Stones & a few others. Most of the products displayed were sourced outside the country mainly from Italy, Spain, Dubai and other Asian countries. There were hardly any locally sourced products or local manufacturers featured except Woodstyles and Fujian stones that have factories here in Nigeria. I guess luxury is not “Made in Nigeria”.
Besides the exhibition, there was also a conference that brought together luxury home owners/designers, real estate developers, hospitality suppliers, luxury brand providers & experts to discuss industry needs and trends.

Designs & setup ranged from what I’ll call old-school European furnishing and design.
To more modern, minimalistic designs.
The set up that really caught my eyes was that of Bang & Olufsen. I really like their simple & modern designs.
This is the one piece of furnishing that I liked the most. I believe every properly furnished home should have a good sound system. These circular speakers really stood out because of it’s unique shape and simplicity. It also sounded really good.
Altogether, the event was well put together and I got a taste of what we can call a properly curated design taste for the Nigerian “Elite”. We would however love to see more locally-made products patronized at the event.
